The AKAMAI Initiative

Are your 8-11th grade students interested in finance, economics or investing?

Are you interested in earning $5K per year for mentoring students for 1 hour a week after school?

If you answered “Yes!”, then HCEE would like to invite you to dinner at the original Roy’s in Hawaii Kai on February 4th to learn more about the AKAMAI Foundation  and their AKAMAI Prep & Finance Academy programs. Neighbor island travel stipends are available.

The AKAMAI Foundation is a Hawaii-based non-profit that provides specialized training in Finance for Hawaii students. Their 5-year program prepares students for a career in finance. The AKAMAI Finance Academy program begins in the senior year of high school and runs through the senior year of college. Students who participate in the AKAMAI Finance Academy meet and exceed all of the requirements for the Senior Project component of the BOE’s Recognition Diploma and Running Start.

HCEE is partnering with the AKAMAI Foundation to find teachers who can help identify students who might be interested in applying for the AKAMAI Finance Academy by participating in the Foundation’s other program, AKAMAI Prep.

The AKAMAI Prep Program is a 4-year program that runs from 8th – 11th grade. This incredible program provides students with the opportunity to:

1.    Increase their awareness of high-paying career opportunities in the world of international finance

2.    Meet with industry expert guest speakers from some of the world’s largest and most prestigious financial firms from around the world

3.    Acquire the academic and emotional maturity to prepare for and qualify as candidates for a full-scholarship into the AKAMAI Finance Academy, valued at $150K [note: roughly $10K per semester plus summer field study and internships]

The AKAMAI Foundation is looking for 32 teachers at selected schools across the state to participate in the AKAMAI Prep Program as a mentor and help identify students for the AKAMAI Finance Academy program. Mentors will be paid five thousand dollars per year for three meetings per month. As a mentor, you will meet with the students selected for the program from 3-4pm every Monday after school. AKAMAI will provide all of the materials and resources for the weekly meetings. Meetings will consist of teleconferenced guest lectures and talks from prominent members of the international money management community, participation in a stock market simulation game, and community service activities.

Complete this form to register for this free, no-obligation, informational dinner at Roy’s (Hawaii Kai Location) at 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 4th
