4-day residential graduate level course designed specifically for teachers that will focus on economic concepts. (Optional: 2 semester hours of graduate credits in Economics from Florida Gulf Coast University or PD Credit- pending approval).
October 7-10, 2009
Hawaii's Economy-
3-credit course created specifically for the Cadre that focuses on the development of Hawaii's economy and current economic issues. This course will be taught through the University of Hawaii, Department of Economics. Teachers will develop a "mini-unit" that incorporates economic data from the Univeristy of Hawaii Economic Research Organization (UHERO).
March 15-19, 2010
Interdisciplinary Methods Course-
3-credit course where teachers will develop and teach a unit integrating economic concepts into a subject they are currently teaching. This course will be taught using a hybrid of lecture, active learning strategies, group work, and technology. Teachers will submit a teacher work sample as part of the final project for this class.
Summer 2010
Economic Education Advocacy Workshop-
1-day workshop developed specficially for Cadre teachers to enhance their ability to advocate and champion for economic and financial literacy within their schools. During this workshop, teachers will develop an advocacy plan for use in their school.
January 2011
+ Cadre teachers will have opportunities to participate in other financial literacy trainings and activities applicable to real world learning for students.
