2004 ECONOMICS CHALLENGE

Student teams from six Hawaii high schools battled it out on Monday, April 12th, to win their respective divisions and the title of State Champions in the 2004 NCEE/Goldman Sachs Foundation "National Economics Challenge."

The Economics Challenge, hosted by the Hawaii Council on Economic Education (HCEE), is a student competition
designed to increase their understanding of and interest in economics and finance. During initial rounds, students tackled fun and challenging written tests of their economic understanding and their reasoning ability. The final rounds of the State Economics Challenge involved a "first-to-the-buzzer" format as teams answered tough questions on complex economic concepts and theories involving micro- and macroeconomics, international economics, and current events.

Iolani teams won both divisions the competition and each student received a $100 savings bond and an all-expense paid trip to Arizona to compete in the regional competition against champions from Arizona, California, Colorado, Oregon, Utah, and Washington.
